“The Masters in May”
Kansas City Barbecue Society Sanctioned BBQ Competition
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Campground, E6506 Highway 110, Fremont, Wisconsin
May 2 – 3, 2014
It is our mission to honor the dedicated competitors who make up the sport of competitive BBQ by hosting an early-season high-quality barbeque competition.
Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, our competition strives to celebrate, preserve and promote barbeque as a culinary technique, sport and art form. In addition, we seek to foster a fun, safe and competitive forum that promotes friendships, fairness, support and appreciation for the fine products of the agricultural community including chicken, pork and beef.
“The Masters in May” KCBS sanctioned barbeque competition was developed by a dedicated group of BBQ enthusiasts, many of whom emerged from the BBQ Club of Wisconsin’s Fox River Valley. Most of our founding group continue to volunteer, judge or compete in the event.
Jim Larsen is president of James and Associates in Neenah, WI, a Certified Project Manager, Engineer and KCBS Certified BBQ Judge and Table Captain. Jim loves the hobby and sport of BBQ and is a regular at the Barbeque Club events in Appleton, WI. Jim and wife Jan are enthusiastic supporters Great Lakes BBQ Association and can be found at many of our regional competitions.
We invite you to attend the 2014 Masters In May. Together with our friendly volunteers, we’re excited and privileged to present this second annual event. In 2013 we filled all 48 openings in March. We were happy to reach capacity but hated to turn away teams. For 2014 we’ll invite 66 teams…and there’ll be more prize money. Jellystone Park is holding all of their cabins and cottages for us and making many more campsites available. The sites are large and each has water, electricity and fire pit.
The Masters in May is focused on providing our participants an outstanding barbeque contest in a first-rate facility. It is our sincere goal to make this a positive and fun experience for all in hopes that you’ll come back year after year. See you there!
